On August 22, the individual bowling competition of the 15th National Games of the People's Republic of China kicked off at the Kai Tak Sports Park Bowling Center in Hong Kong. Athletes from 27 provinces, autonomous regions, and municipalities across the country competed fiercely in six rounds on the first day, with a lively atmosphere filled with the sounds of pins crashing, cheers, and applause.
The individual competition on the 22nd was divided into three sessions: A, B, and C, with a total of 168 players competing for the championship. At 9 a.m., the men's and women's individual Group A matches started first, followed by Group B and Group C matches in the afternoon and evening respectively.
After intense competition, the Hubei team emerged as the biggest winner of this event, sweeping the men's and women's individual championships. Hubei athlete Zhang Ping won the men's individual gold medal, Zhejiang's Huang Xiaojian took silver, and Chongqing's Zhu Ning earned bronze. On the women's side, Hubei's Fang Jiping claimed gold, while Sichuan's Pan Xiufen and Shanxi's Zhao Yijie won silver and bronze respectively.
As one of the hosts of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area National Games, the Guangdong team stated that the inclusion of bowling in the National Games is highly significant: "Holding the event in the Greater Bay Area is a rare opportunity to compete with top players nationwide right at our doorstep. The conditions for hosting bowling events are quite complex, so this opportunity is especially precious."
Hong Kong athletes said the atmosphere on site was very good, with loud cheers from the audience, and the athletes were very engaged, deeply moved by the enthusiasm of the mainland spectators.
On the 23rd, the doubles competition will take place, followed by the five-person team competition on the 24th. The entire event includes six subcategories: men's and women's individual, doubles, and team events.
